Jesus Christ House of Prayer "LOVE YOURSELF" Stop the Violence 298 Brooklyn Avenue Brooklyn, NY 11213
|

| Each year "LOVE YOURSELF" Stop the Violence selects individuals who have demonstrated a humanitarian spirit, a positive image or have done invaluable community service and present them with a Buffalo Soldier award. The Buffalo Soldier was chosen because they were Black soldiers in the U.S. Calvary who made brave sacrifices to the United States of America at a time when Blacks were considered second class citizens with little or no opportunity for distinction.
Through their contributions, the Buffalo Soldiers opened the West for ranchers and cowboys by protecting the mail and stage routes and establishing law and order. The Buffalo Soldiers fought many Western fights against fierce adversaries. These determined soldiers constantly came away from these battles as true heroes and are considered among the very best soldiers in American history. Mrs. Custer, General Custer's wife, said this about the Buffalo Soldiers: "They were determined that no soldiering should be carried on in which their valor was not proved."
The Buffalo Soldiers were drawn and painted by the great American artist Frederic Remington, who had the ultimate respect for them and made them immortal. Before his retirement, General Colin Powell, Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff, dedicated a magnificent monument commemorating the Buffalo Soldiers at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. |
